Hi! I'm Logan (he/il) and I'm the head trainer at Moonbeam Dog Training.

I've lived in urban environments with reactive dogs for the past decade. I know what it's like to not be able to avoid triggers, to not have a yard or have a small yard, and to dread taking the dog on a walk just to get them to go to the bathroom.

I've been teaching reactive dogs in both private lessons and group classes for over 5 years. Not only have I had success with my own dogs, I've helped families like yours go from sky high emotions to all four paws on the ground beside you.

I am a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and a Certified High School Teacher. I know how to teach both sides of the leash. I adjust my teaching to your specific learning needs just as much as I adjust my training to your dog's needs. I love working with neurodivergent clients.
Trigger Stacking in Urban Dogs
Are your dog's reactions unpredictable? Is your dog sometimes able to walk by Fluffy and other times they have a massive meltdown?

You may be dealing with what we call "trigger stacking".
Think of how it feels when you're driving home in Ottawa traffic. Someone cuts you off. Someone else doesn't use their turn signal. You have to brake hard at a light and the car behind you almost hits you. You get home and step through the front door and trip over someone's shoe, and you lose it about the shoe.

Was the shoe actually the problem? Or was it just the straw that broke the camel's back?

Your dog experiences something similar on your walks. A border collie lay down and stared at them. A husky barked a few yards away. A kid was playing with a ball. A car whizzed by super close. And then they saw Fluffy and they just couldn't hold it together any longer.

At Moonbeam, we take Trigger Stacking into account when designing our training programs. We focus on teaching your dog to bounce back from stressful events (because they're unavoidable) and we teach your dog to report back to you when they need some support with their big feelings.
