Want to take your dog out on the town?

Is your dog generally well-behaved at home but a little unpredictable in public? Do you dream of taking your dog with you to stores and cafés but you're worried about what they'll do if you're not supervising them 100% of the time? Does your dog do what you tell them to do but make some unwanted decisions on their own time?

We can help!

Our City Manners program is designed to take you from an obedient dog (that does what you tell them to do) to a well-mannered dog (that makes decisions you approve of even without you micromanaging them). We take you from practicing at home to practicing in more distracting real-life environments, all with the professional guidance of a trainer.

Let's go out on the town!

Moonbeam's City Manners Dog Training Program

Here's how it works:

  1. Initial Consult to get to know each other and set goals

  2. Private Lessons to learn foundation skills and practice with 1:1 instruction at home or in your neighbourhood

  3. Rainbow Field Trips to practice in busier environments with more distractions

A flow chart describing the City Manners Dog Training Program. It starts with 1. Initial Consult then there is an arrow pointing to 2. Private Lessons and then an arrow pointing to 3. Rainbow Field Trips which is in a different colour. To the side, there is a curly bracket including the Consult & Lessons that says New Client Package. The Moonbeam logo is at the bottom right.

Program Details

Initial Consult

This is a 45 min meeting via Zoom where we will discuss your dog, your family, your living situation, and your goals. We will go over expectations for the training program and determine if we are a good fit to continue.

In-Home Private Lessons

These are 45 min lessons conducted at your home and in your neighbourhood. We will be practicing the foundation skills of a City Manners dog - including Loose Leash Walking, Leave It, Greetings, and more. After your lesson, you will receive a short summary of what we covered as well as up to 3 things to focus on before your next lesson.

Private lessons are offered in packages of 3 lessons and we suggest that you schedule your lessons 2 weeks apart. Please note that packages expire 10 weeks after purchase. In order to support you and your dog's success, we do not provide single lesson options.

If you sign up for an additional set of 3 In-Home Private Lessons, you also get access to 3 Virtual Office Hours. These are optional opportunities to ask questions of your trainer and to listen to the questions of other students.

Rainbow Group Field Trips

Rainbow Group Field Trips are a members-only group outing to a public location so that we can work on our dogs' skills in a semi-controlled setting. For City Manners dogs who can already manage their feelings, your instructor will assign you a bandana colour that gives you access to our busier field trip locations such as parks, strip malls, and dog friendly stores.

Every team in the Field Trip will receive:

  • A walkie-talkie so that your trainer can provide direction and instruction

  • A colour coded bandana indicating how close other people/dogs can get to you

  • A quick pep-talk at the start

  • A quick debrief at the end

  • Approximately 30 min of working time

We plan to start doing field trips in Spring 2026.

Field Trips are a fantastic way to translate your practice to real life while still having the support of a trainer.

Meet Your Trainer

Hi! My name is Logan and I'm a certified professional dog trainer (CPDT-KA) as well as a certified high school teacher (OCT).

I started my career as an assistant dog walker in Toronto before moving back to Ottawa. I know what it's like to want to bring your dog to a store or a park while being worried about what version of them that I will get once I'm there. Are they going to be in their "wow your dog is so well behaved" mode or are they going to be in their "have you considered hiring a trainer" mode?

The good news is - you don't have to do this alone.

I've worked with dogs in high distraction environments my entire career. I can teach you how to get more reliable responses from your dog and start to shift the conversation from you micro-managing them to your dog making good choices on their own. I've helped many families go from too embarrassed to bring their dogs in public to being able to enjoy store visits, park walks, and some have even gone on to do therapy work.

You can do this too.
